Reggae-Dancehall star Shatta Wale has expressed his support for President John Mahama over his decision to fire George Akuffo IGP Dampare.
According to him, the former IGP, Dampare was focused more on arresting celebrities rather than tackling serious criminal activities in the country.
The singer made this statement shortly after COP Yohunu was appointed as the new IGP replacing Dampare.
He quoted a post from Joy News when encouraging Ghanaians to interact online after the removal of Dampare from his office.
In his response to the post, Shatta Wale criticized Dampare’s leadership by , describing him as “the first IGP to arrest celebrities more than criminals” during his stint as IGP.
He accused the IGP of prioritizing the prosecution of public figures, including musicians and influencers, instead of addressing pressing security challenges such as armed robbery and cybercrime.
Shatta Wale himself has had legal issues in the past, including his controversial arrest in 2021 over a false gun attack report.
He was also jailed for two weeks with his crew, which included Nana Dope, Deportee, and Gangee, for their role in causing fear and panic following Jesus Ahoufe’s prophecy concerning the singer.
His close friend Medikal was also apprended by police, led by Dampare, for blandishing a gun.
The rapper recently accused the Akufo-Addo-led NPP government of arresting him for no apparent cause.
Shatta Wale’s previous encounters with the law are likely to have influenced his stance on the matter, as he believes that such arrests do little to alleviate Ghana’s greater security issues.
