Shatta Wale has slammed entertainment critic and pundit Arnold Asamoah Baidoo after Highlife genre was added to the Recording Academy’s new Grammys categories list.
This comes after the Recording Academy announced three new Grammys categories including best African music performance category for 2023 award show.
Shatta Wale, in response to the news, praised the Grammys for recognising the genre, noting that despite entertainment critics and certain industry folks slamming his state of the nation address over the comment that “Ghana don’t have a music identity,”
He further claimed that his comment when addressing the nation in 2021 played a key role for Grammys to include the highlife genre on their new category list.

Meanwhile, the Recording Academy’s rationale and significant effort towards category inclusion is to recognize the diversity of African musical culture and the extraordinary talent of the continent’s musicians.
