Shatta Wale, a dancehall musician has gifted GHS5,000 to Elis Koina, a Ghanaian female musician, after she freestyled two of his songs in a viral video.
This generous act comes after the artist ordered his manager, Sammy Flex, to hand the money to Koina, who is currently selling sachet water on the street.
In the widely circulated video, which was first published on TikTok, she showcased her singing talent, which drew the attention of many followers.
Koina remixed Shatta Wale’s megahit songs “JJC” and “Dancehall King” with soughing instrumentals playing in the background while carrying a baby at her back.
She received a lot of praised for her unique voice with many fans urging Shatta Wale to mentor her.
Critics condemned Koina for exploiting her child to get public sympathy in order to gain attention.
Elis Koina is best known for her song “Vybing,” which talks about the struggle of love and was released in 2022 on the record label 1st Page Music.
She released her second song, Party Scatter, in 2024 but slipped off the radar until she was discovered selling pure water for a living.
Nevertheless, Koina performed the backing vocals for rapper Edem’s ‘Over Again’ among other tracks.
She has done backings for artistes like Prince Bright of BukBak fame, Stay Jay, Scata, and the late Ebony Reigns, among others.
