Ghanaian reggae-dancehall musician Shatta Wale has secured three nominations at the prestigious 42nd International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA).
The event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts in Florida.
This year’s edition promises to be a memorable event, celebrating nearly 40 years of uniting nations through music and culture.
Shatta Wale has been nominated in three key categories of the 2024 IRAWMA including Best African Entertainer, Best Crossover Song, and Best Music Video.
In the Best African Entertainer category, Shatta Wale faces stiff competition from renowned African artists, including Nkule from South Africa, Redsan from Kenya, Sheebah from Uganda, and Winky D from Zimbabwe.
For the Best Music Video category, his visually captivating piece, Killa Ji Mi, competes against Damian Marley’s Wiseman, Louis York & Gramps Morgan’s Have a Little Light, and Davido, Sean Paul, & Ding Dong featuring Musa Keys’ Unavailability.
In the Best Crossover Song category, Shatta Wale’s Commando, a collaboration with Bounty Killer from his 2024 album Konekt, is up against top contenders such as Busy Signal’s Ba Ba Bad, Byron Messia, Lil Baby & Rvssian’s Choppa, Davido featuring YG Marley’s Awuke, and Wizkid & Shenseea’s Work Me Out.
Shatta Wale is the most-awarded African artist in IRAWMA history, having won six times.
He first won it in 2014 after being honored with the Best New Entertainer award. Two years later, in 2016, he clinched the Best African Song/Entertainer award.
In 2018, he received the prestigious Special IRAWMA Award of Honour and had won both the Best Music Video and Best Afrobeat Entertainer awards in 2019.
His most recent and last award came in 2021 when he took home Best Virtual Entertainer of the Year.
Meanwhile, IRAWMA is regarded Jamaica’s most prestigious award ceremony. It focuses on reggae and world music, recognising the achievements of artists across the world who participate in the genre.
