Taner Savut was a Hatayspor sporting director who was born on August 19, 1974 in Izmir, Turkey, where he began his career as a footballer playing right back for Izmirspor in 1994 before joining fenerbahçe in 1997. In the UEFA Cup, he played his first European match against Steaua Bucuresti, which his team lost (2-1) at home in the first round. In the 2001-2002 season, he made 71 appearances for Göztepe and later Siirtspor, scoring only one goal. He then spent time in the lower leagues with Sakaryaspor, Alanyaspor, and Tokatspor until 2011.
