Ghana suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat against the United States of America (USA) in an international friendly on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.
The Black Stars displayed a lackluster performance and faced the consequences in a one-sided first half at the Geodis Park in Nashville, Tennessee.
The USA dominated the first half, with Giovanni Reyna scoring twice, complemented by goals from Christian Pulisic and Leon Balogun.
After a recent 2-0 loss to Mexico, Chris Hughton made several changes to his starting lineup for the match against the Yanks.
Alidu Seidu took the right-back position, and Nicholas Opoku and Jermone Opoku formed the central defense. Gideon Mensah retained his position as left-back.

In the midfield, Thomas Partey partnered with Edmund Addo, while Joseph Paintsil, Jordan Ayew, and Mohammed Kudus supported center-forward Inaki Williams.
Gregg Berhalter also fielded a strong lineup featuring Christian Pulisic, Yunus Musah, Gio Reyna, Tim Weah, Folarin Balogun, and Sergino Dest.
The USA swiftly took control of the game, capitalizing on their early dominance when Reyna scored after just 10 minutes.

They continued to press into Ghana’s territory without resistance, earning a penalty when Pulisic was fouled in the box. Pulisic himself converted the penalty to extend the home side’s lead in the 22nd minute.
The USA’s chances kept coming, and Balogun found the net when given ample time and space in the box after Gideon Mensah lost possession near his goal.

Late in the first half, Reyna scored a fourth goal from an indirect free-kick, putting the game out of reach for Ghana.
In the second half, the USA eased off the gas, and despite several substitutions by Hughton, neither team managed to change the scoreline. The match concluded with a 4-0 victory for the USA.

Meanwhile, Ghana has now suffered losses in both of the international games they participated in this month, following a 2-0 defeat by Mexico last Sunday.
