Vybz Kartel, a Jamaican dancehall musician, has been nominated for a Grammy for the first time after his release from prison earlier this year.
The musician received a nomination in the Best Reggae Album category with his “Party With Me” EP Following the announcement of the nominees on Friday, November 8, 2024.
The “Party with Me” EP, released under Adidjahiem Records on May 31, 2024, while Kartel was still in jail, features eight tracks: Dollar Dollar, Wet, Tell Me What U Want, Party With Me, Hot Spot, Ignite The World, Pale Blue Dot (Rihanna Wine), and AR 15.
The EP has gained considerable attention due to its relatable lyrics, catchy rhythms, and infectious energy, helping solidify Kartel’s status as a key figure in the dancehall genre.
Each track has performed well on digital streaming platforms, with millions of views collectively.
Kartel faces stiff competition in the Best Reggae Album category, going head-to-head with fellow Jamaican dancehall artist Shenseea, who received a nomination for her album Never Gets Here.

Also in contention is Collie Buddz (Take it Eazy), The Wailers (Evolution) and Bob Marley: One Love (Music Inspired by the film.
According to Recording Academy board members, the criteria for selecting album for the Best Reggae category is that the album has more than 75% of new reggae recording time.
Shenseea’s success at the Grammys extends further, as she has also been nominated in the Best African Performance category for her collaborative work on Wizkid and Asake’s track “MMS.”
The 2025 Grammy Awards ceremony will take place on February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
The event will feature a red carpet, performances by selected artists, and the celebration of talent and dedication across the music industry.
