Jamaican dancehall icon Adidja Azim Palmer, popularly known as Vybz Kartel, has released his first new project, the “First Week Out” album, after being bailed out of prison.
The album marks a significant return for Kartel, as it is his first release following his recent release from incarceration.
Vybz Kartel’s release from prison comes after a court ruling that denied him a retrial, resulting in his release on bail.
The new project has reignited interest in Kartel’s musical career, with fans eagerly anticipating his return to the music scene.
The “First Week Out” album was released on August 1, 2024, and it Vybz Kartel’s sixth studio album.
It’s comprises of 12 tracks, each highlighting Kartel’s personal experiences and challenges during his time in prison.
The album’s content talks about Kartel’s journey, detailing his life story from the stormy days in his prison cell.
The album features only one artist, Squash, popular reggae singer. Squash contributes to four tracks on the album, including “Beat Dem Bad,” “Giant,” “Skillful,” and “Feel Great.”
The Menace, Terror by Night, Unstoppable, Adiadking, Victorious, Success Story, Number One, are among the songs on the album are some of the notable tracks off the album.
Before “First Week Out,” Vybz Kartel’s last album was “Divas and Dons,” released in 2020 while he was still in prison.
Despite his incarceration, Kartel continued to make an impact in Caribbean music scene, maintaining his status as a dancehall legend.
