Dancehall star Stonebwoy, whose real name is Livingston Etse Satekla, has taken aim at his fellow artists Black Sherif, King Paluta, Shatta Wale, and Samini, among others.
The singer, still upset over his omission from a recent Grammys article, questioned the inclusion of these artists in the Recording Academy’s publication during a recent interview.
Stonebwoy specifically mentioned Shatta Wale and Samini, arguing that they do not deserve recognition in the hiplife genre if they are currently producing contemporary music.
He adds that while his exclusion from the list doesn’t bother him, he finds it puzzling that Black Sherif and King Paluta, who were not part of the genre’s original era, were featured in the article.
He emphasises that although the piece attempted to reflect Ghanaian music identity, but it failed to capture the genuine nature of Ghanaian sound.
Expressing confusion over the criteria used by the Recording Academy to select the artists, Stonebwoy criticized the process as flawed.
He also questioned why his name was omitted from the article despite being the current TGMA Artist of the Year.
“What role do King Paluta and Black Sherif play in highlife? Are they even highlife artists? What were Sonni Bali, Samini, and Shatta Wale doing in that article? Is my style not contemporary enough to be mentioned, even as the current Artist of the Year? Are we writing about the past? I’m confused,” Stonebwoy told MC Portfolio
