Ghanaian-UK based gospel artist and philanthropist, Sonnie Badu has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to reform the mindset and attitudes of how the Football body treats its players following Atsu’s funeral.
In a lengthy letter, the founder of Rock Hill Church expressed his concern how the GFA over the years has forced some players into early retirement.
According to him, Atsu was known as the ‘Messi of Ghana’ but retired at 31, where PSG star and Argentina talisman, Messi won the World Cup at 35.

“Dear GFA @chris atsu has been finally laid to rest. However, let me say this .. Let this be a reform of mindset and a change of attitude… I know our @ghana_fa_official chairman will do things differently
“I heard in recent interviews people saying that he was the Messi of Ghana….. Well you guys retired him quick whiles Messi is still playing the World Cup… Messi is 35 and Astu was 31.
“Let us learn how to make players feel important while they are alive. We should not wait for something to happen to them before we take over their funeral expenses and all of that,” some part of his letter reads.
Atsu passed away on February 6, 2023, through deadly earthquake in Turkey. However, his body was flown to Ghana on February 18, and on March 18, he was buried in Dorgobom, his ancestral home in Ada West District, Greater Accra Region.
Friends and sympathizers including Adebayor and Emmanuel Ebuei, paid their final respects to the remains of the former Black Stars winger at his state-assisted funeral.

In other news, Speaking about Christian Atsu’s death, Medikal said that the first time he heard the tragic news of the former Black Stars player made him cry.
According to him, he was aware of all of Atsu’s charitable work, but the media began to publicise it after he died.
Meanwhile, the Beyond Kontrol rapper was seen rushing Shatta Wale’s Shaxi driver with cash after spotting him on the road side.
