HelloVybes can confirm that the Ghana Telecommunications network, AirtelTigo, has been renamed AT for simplicity.
The merged company on Thursday, June 22, 2023 took to social media platforms to update its handles, hinting at rebranding to its customers with the theme “Life is Simple”
Additionally, in an SMS circular issued to all customers, the company said the following:
“Dear Customer, We’re happy to announce to you that AirtelTigo is now AT, so going forward, call us AT. Life is simple!
According to a company official, the now-sold company “will be holding a press conference on 22nd June, 2023 at 10am for the official confirmation of the AT name, which they believe will make things simple.”
The name change will apply to all sub-brands; ATMoney, AT Business, AT Premier and AT Insurance. Our social media and website domain names would change accordingly. The new name, AT will also apply to all future communications, marketing materials, and branding efforts.
All trade materials reflecting AirtelTigo will subsequently change to reflect the new brand, AT, whereas the brand colours will remain the same.
It will be recalled that the government purchased the company for US$1 when Bharti Airtel (Airtel) and Millicom (Tigo) left Ghana in 2021, but it is now working on transferring shares to another investor.
According to unconfirmed sources, the company is currently being sold to Hannam and Partners, a UK-based private equity group best known for its work in the mining and finance industries and with no previous experience in telecoms. However, the company is said to have contacted Oracle about partnering in the AirtelTigo acquisition deal.

The AirtelTigo (AT) network has reportedly been upgraded with Oracle technology, but a company representative speaking to TechFocus24 said, “I can neither confirm nor deny that information.”
The Glo Migration
Meanwhile, last year April, Globacom Ghana migrated all of its 800,000+ customers to AirtelTigo in an apparent merger that the two companies falsely described as a roaming deal.
Glo customers can only recharge airtime on AirtelTigo SIM because currently there are no Glo recharge cards on the market. This clearly indicates that the two companies have combined.
According to report, the deal went through after Glo Group CEO and Chairman Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr. received assurances of owning a minority shares in AirtelTigo. It is important to note that Glo retains its license even though it no longer provides services in Ghana.
With this, the government is expected to disclose the shareholding structure of AT when the sale is completed.
A decision will also be made on what to do with Glo Spectrum now that the company no longer offers service in the country.
