Legendary Ghanaian highlife musician, Amakye Dede, has disclosed that he was forced to declare Kuami Eugene as the king of future highlife at the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs).
Amakye Dede faced a deluge of criticism from music industry key payers, including record producer Zapp Mallet after the 20th edition VGMAs.
Many believe the veteran highlife legend took a too low approach after placing the crown on Kuami Eugene’s head during the event.
Amakye Dede revealed on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, that he was compelled into declaring the Crypto Currency hitmaker, the King of Highlife.
According to him, he delegated the crown given to him onto someone else, but the VGMA organisers pressed him despite his lack of desire.

“Though I did that, it was not my will to do so…They forced me to crown Kuami Eugene,” he said.
“I even gave the crown they handed over to me to someone to put it down, but they later said, no I have to crown him, and I did it,” the Su fre wo Nyame hitmaker said.
“Kuami Eugene is my son. I played a major role in his journey as an artiste. I was a voice coach on the MTN Hitmaker show, training him and the likes of Kidi and Kurl Songz. So, to crown him as the Highlife King is not correct – he concluded.
