The Ashanti Regional Council is offering a cash reward to anyone who returns missing helicopter parts and personal belongings taken from the Obuasi crash site, urging residents to assist in the investigation.
This comes after the ARCC released a statement on Saturday, August 9, appealing to some of the first people who arrived at the crash site to remove parts of the helicopter and other belongings.
The council emphasizes that, all items, no matter how small including metals, screws, drives, or boards must be handed back to authorities without delay.
Ashanti Regional Minister Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene states that residents can surrender the items to Unit Committees, Assembly Members, Municipal or District Chief Executives, or directly to members of the investigating team on the ground.
To encourage cooperation, the ARCC has announced a cash reward for anyone who willingly returns items before the deadline of Monday, August 11, 2025.
After this date, possession of any such items will be considered a criminal offense, with offenders facing the full rigors of the law.
“The general public is hereby notified,” the Minister emphasized, adding that the initiative aims to assist investigators in piecing together critical evidence for the crash inquiry.
The ARCC’s directive indicates the importance of preserving crash evidence, both for safety investigations and to maintain the integrity of legal processes.
This follows barely three days after the Ghana Military Z-9 helicopter crashed in Obuaso’s Adansi Afrofuom district area which claimed the lives of eight persons.
