Burkina Faso President Captain Ibrahim Traoré sparked dispute among Ghanaians over his appearance at John Mahama’s inauguration.
The military officer greeted Mahama at his swearing-in as Ghana’s president for the second time since 2016.
Prior to his appearance at the ceremony, Traoré sent a congratulatory message to Mahama following his presidential election victory on December 7, 2024.
However, in a later development, some Ghanaians have expressed their anger over safety rules put in place during John Mahama’s inaugural programme.
Their questions and fears came from Ibrahim Traoré going to greet President Mahama while carrying a gun on his side waist.
While some perceived the gesture as a symbol of love and respect, others chastised the security officers for allowing Traoré to carry a gun (pistol) into the inaugural venue.
In addition to their concerns, they argued the move was not ideal and could threaten Mahama’s life, despite being checked before attending the event with his soldiers.
