Ghanaian media personality Captain Smart has called on President John Mahama’s Recover All Loot (ORAL) team to investigate a GHS100.2 million streetlight contract allegedly awarded to the wife of Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong, Mrs Stella Wilson Agyapong in 2018.
Speaking on his morning show, Captain Smart claims that Kennedy was also paid $13 million for the supply of air conditions during the ex-president Kuffour’s administration, but he refused to complete the state’s project after receiving the contract.
The outspoken presenter questioned the transparency surrounding the contract, which involved the installation and maintenance of streetlights across various regions in Ghana.
He expresses concerns about potential irregularities in the procurement process and the project’s execution, urging ORAL to delve into the details to ensure accountability.
“Ask Kennedy Agyapong about the $13 million contract offered to him by Kuffour to provide air conditions to the Ministry Department and Agencies if he did it. He never completed the work after receiving the contract. You think you are the only man in this country. I was waiting for the right time to deal with individuals. Kennedy always disgraced people on his television show by instilling fear in them when he needs something from people like Ministers of State, who seem to refuse to give it to him. Nobody loves Ken more than I do, but he and his wife must account for the GHS102 million and $13 million.” He stated.
This follows after the Minority in Parliament ordered former officials to reject any engagement with the Anti-Corruption Group. John Darko, an MP for Suame, has added salt to the wound by claiming that the ORAL violates Ghana’s legal framework since it is unconstitutional.
He emphasises that no serious country will entertain such a group, hence his colleagues should decline any invitation from them.
Captain Smart, in response to the Minority’s claim, sends a strong warning advising them to keep their mouths shut.
“I am sending this to all NPP representatives, including MPs, Ministers, and chief executives to dare ignore an ORAL call. They can’t, but Afenyo Martkins and the others as minority members are in the parliament always bragging” – Captain concluded.
