Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohunu has been named Ghana’s new Inspector-General of Police (IGP) by President John Dramani Mahama.
The move comes after the President issued a statements on Thursday March 13, 2025 to announce Yohunu’s appointment in accordance with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 Constitution and following consultation with the Council of State.
COP Yohunu replaces COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare as the head of the Ghana Police Service, taking over leadership at a crucial time when security reforms and modernization efforts are key priorities according to the statement.
With four decades of experience in law enforcement, COP Yohunu is expected to lead major transformations within the police force, ensuring efficiency, professionalism, and improved security across the country.
The announcement was made by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP and Spokesperson to the President, who emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening the country’s security framework under Yohunu’s leadership.
Ghanaians will now look forward to how COP Yohunu will steer the Ghana Police Service, focusing on modernization, crime prevention, and law enforcement reforms.
