The Kano State Magistrate Court has remanded two Tiktok skit creators, Mubarak Muhammed known as Uniquepikin and Nazifi Muhammed, for defaming the character of the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.

In one of their skits, the accused portrayed the governor as a corrupt official who, among other things, sold most of the state’s lands.

After the charges of conspiracy and defamation of the state helmsman were read to them, Uniquepikin and Nazif pleaded guilty.

Presiding Magistrate Amin Gambari of Magistrate Court 58, Nomansland, subsequently ordered the two Tikokers to be remanded in jail custody, with the case adjourned until November 7, 2022.

Mr Ganduje has long been seen as a corrupt public official, following the publication of videos of him stuffing bundles of bribes in foreign currency into his babanriga (flowing garment) pockets by the Daily Nigerian newspaper.

The governor is notorious for suppressing critics and journalists who expose his corrupt transactions in government through the use of state authority.

Nonetheless, supporters believe that many of the governor’s critics are politically motivated.
