Former Inspector General of Police George Akuffo Dampare has spoken for the first time after being “sacked” and replaced by COP Christian Tetteh Yohunu.
Dampare expressed his gratitude to former President Nana Addo in a statement issued on Friday, March 14, 2025, and vowed to continue serving Ghana.
“He wishes to express his continuous commitment to Ghana, our beloved country, and his willingness to serve the nation that he loves.
“He has served the Ghana Police Service for 35 out of his nearly 55 years of life with an unblemished record.
“He remains energetic, committed and enthusiastic about serving his nation with discipline, honour and integrity,” a statement signed by his Executive Assistant, Nana Osei Afrifa read.
Dampare was fired from his position as IGP of the Police Service within 24 hours after President Mahama appointed COP Yohunu.
His departure sparked varied reactions from Ghanaians, with some highlighting his good efforts in reducing crime and restoring sanity to the agency.
They also emphasised his impact on victims and slain officers who died tragically as a result of armed robberies.
Nevertheless, others commended him for his effort to suppress or limit prophets over doom prophecies towards which was documented during 31st night of every year in police’s communiques.
