Afrobeats sensation, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido has faced disappointment as he failed to win all three nominations he received at the 66th Grammy Awards.
Despite competing for success in the Best African Music Performance, Best Global Music Performance and Best Global Album Performance categories, Davido left Sunday night’s awards ceremony empty-handed.

Four other prominent Nigerian artistes Burna Boy, Olamide, Ayra Star and Asake also missed out on the Grammys, but none of them received any awards during the event.
In contrast, South Africa’s Tyra celebrated her first Grammy win by winning in the Best Global Music Performance category.

Tyra, known for her 2023 smash hit ‘Water’, topped a line-up that included Davido, Burna Boy, Asake and Isla Star.
Before the ceremony, Davido had expressed optimism about winning his first Grammy Award, but his expectations were disappointed.
In an interview with Billboard’s Tetris Kelly, he expressed his excitement over the nomination, but also expressed his longstanding appreciation for African music, citing the influence of past legends such as Fela Kuti and King Sunny Ade.
According to Davido, the Best African Music Performance category was an important step towards recognizing African artists at prestigious global music awards.
Despite the setback, Davido is optimistic that African talent will be increasingly recognized on the Grammy stage.
