The Electoral Commission has officially declared John Mahama, the NDC presidential candidate, as the winner over NPP’s Bawumia in the general elections held on December 7.
The newly elected president got over 6 million votes, with Bawumia finishing in second with over 4 million votes.
With this, John Mahama beats Bawumia by 15% margin with 1,580,993 votes after the 2024 elections final results.
He also won 13 of the 16 regions, while the NPP only won three.
The Electoral Commission (EC) released the presidential results and declaration after 48 hours on Monday, December 9, 2024, the day of the election.
According to the association, the delay was caused by other discord, such as ballot boxes and other votes being spoiled and destroyed as a result of the chaos that occurred in several areas.
The EC also stated that John Mahama was the obvious winner of Bawumia, even though the other nine seats that were not included in the initial count could not influence the final results.
During the declaration at the EC headquarters in Accra, John Mahama, the President-Elect, and his family, which included his wife, two sons, and a daughter, were seen at their home, waiting for the exciting announcement.
Shortly after declared winner, Mahama could be seen with tears of joy as his family moved to him to console him hug and kiss.
