The Ghana Black Stars have been eliminated from the AFCON 2023 group stage after a 2-2 draw with Mozambique on Monday evening.
The Black Stars took an early two-goal lead thanks to Jordan Ayew’s successful penalty kicks, but their chances of advancing to the next round were low to none. At the same time, Egypt and Cape Verde clashed in Group B.
Despite having a two-goal advantage, Mozambique applied pressure to the Black Stars and eventually equalised in the last minutes of the game.

Andre Dede Ayew conceded a penalty, converted by Ginny Catamo, and a header from R. Mandava sealed the (2-2) draw.
In a parallel match, Egypt drew with Cape Verde (1-1) and qualified for the next round.

Ghanaians are dissatisfied with the outcome and have expressed their disappointment, notably with Dede Ayew, who replaced the injured Majeed Asimel.
Some supporters have demanding that the Ayew brothers be dismissed from the entire Black Stars squad and not be called back after their recent poor performance.
They also stated that since Dede Ayew took over as captain, the team has made little improvement and has performed poorly in every competition in which they compete.
