“I paid $100,000 to Anas not to expose me over corruption” - Former GFA boss, Kwesi Nyantakyi

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kwesi Nyantakyi has said that he offered huge amounts of money to Ghanaian investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas in order to prevent the release of his exposé.

Speaking with presenter Captain Smart on Onua TV, Kwesi Nyantakyi stated that he paid $100,000 to Anas to prevent damaging facts from being revealed in the Number 12 documentary release.

He went further clarifying that, although he had no direct contact with Anas, he (Anas) refused to accept the hefty amount and wanted $150,000 from him because it was not enough for him.

Kwesi Nyantakyi emphasised that when Anas went on to launch the Number 12 documentary, he asked a refund and received the entire sum back, although in installments.

“Before the video was released, his lawyers reached out to me through a certain Kwame Gyan, a lecturer at Legon. I met him at his residence around Westland and gave them the money,”

“But they told me the amount was inadequate and later went ahead to release the video. After the video came out, I asked for a refund and even the refund was done in pieces.

”Today, they would bring $20,000, the next day another $10,000. They were giving me stories, but eventually I got everything back.” — he said on Onua Tv as quoted by Joy Sports.

You may recall that in 2018, Nyantakyi was caught on tape taking bribes and engaging in other widespread corruption within Ghana football administration.

The Ex-GFA boss resigned from his positions at the highest levels of the Ghanaian football community, as well as the CAF and FIFA in an attempt to suppress the incriminating footage.
