Innocentia Avinu Death: Police Arrest Suspect in UCC Student’s Beach Murder Amid Ritual Killing Fears
Innocentia Death: UCC Student Killer Arrested As Police Probe Ritual Murder at Beach
The University of Cape Coast (UCC) community remains in deep mourning following the tragic death of Innocentia Avinu, a Level 200 student whose lifeless body was discovered at Hutchland Beach under circumstances that have left many Ghanaians shocked and angry.
The young student died on Friday, June 12, 2026, sending waves of grief across social media, campus corridors, and the nation at large.
What made her passing even more heartbreaking were the disturbing circumstances surrounding her death including unconfirmed reports of mutilation.
In a significant development, the Ghana Police Service has apprehended a suspect in connection with Innocentia’s death.
According to an official statement released by the police, the suspect has been identified as Michael Mensah. He was arrested on June 15, 2026, at approximately 7:15 PM at the Pedu Lorry Station in Cape Coast.
The arrest was carried out by the IGP’s Vetting and Enforcement Team, which the police said acted on “sustained intelligence-led operations.”
This swift response just three days after the student’s death has been praised by some members of the public, though many are now waiting to see if justice will be fully served.
Preliminary findings from the police investigation reveal that Michael Mensah who claims to be a teacher by profession but also works as a driver allegedly picked up Innocentia from Ayensu Plaza, located within the UCC hostel enclave.
From there, he reportedly transported her to Hutchland Beach, the very location where her body was later discovered.
Authorities are not yet disclosed whether the suspect and the deceased knew each other prior to that day, or what exactly transpired between them at the beach.
As of reporting this news, no formal charges have been filed against Mensah despite his photos were shared on the Internet depicting him being handcuffed.
Police have stated that investigations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as evidence is reviewed.
Perhaps the most disturbing aspect of this case and the one generating the most online buzz is the unconfirmed allegation that one of Innocentia’s breasts was allegedly severed.
Multiple online portals have reported this detail, though the Ghana Police Service has not officially confirmed it at the time of this publication.
If true, the act would point strongly toward a ritual-related killing, a form of crime in which body parts are harvested for purported spiritual or financial gain.
Ritual killings, while not commonplace, have occurred in various parts of Ghana over the years, often triggering public outrage and calls for stricter laws and enforcement.
This case, given the victim’s status as a young university student, has struck a particularly sensitive nerve among Ghanaians.
Following the news of Innocentia’s death, social media platforms especially X (formerly Twitter)and Facebook have been flooded with emotional tributes and demands for justice.
Many users have expressed anger not only at the alleged perpetrator but also at what they see as inadequate protections for young women, particularly students living in off-campus hostels.
