Reggae-dancehall singer Stonebwoy has said that Ghanaian artists struggle significant in achieving international recognition despite the efforts put into their crafts.
According to him, breaking into the global markets from Ghana is not an easy task which limits the impact of the country’s artists.
He made this statement during a recent Afrobeats Podcast in London, where he highlighted his recent tour in America and Canada and his experiences with Ghana’s music industry obstacles.
Stonebwoy describes the difficulties of getting people to come out during his first solo winter tour in America, stating, “Getting people to come out in those conditions was tough.”
Despite the chilly weather and other challenges, Stonebwoy’s tour, aimed at promoting his latest record, saw impressive turnouts.
He was particularly thrilled to see Gen Z fans embracing his music.
“The response has been fantastic. I can confidently say that my music resonates with a wide range of people—from the last guy in the hood to the president. That’s lovely to know,” he said with a smile.
Reflecting on the obstacles Ghanaian musicians face on the global stage, Stonebwoy noted that they encounter both internal and external hurdles, unlike Nigerian musicians who have already made a mark internationally.
“We all know the odds are against us. Pushing through requires more work,” he remarked.
Stonebwoy thanked everyone who has supported him along the way and promised to continue working hard to promote Ghanaian music globally.
“I feel incredibly thankful, extremely thankful.”
