The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has intercepted a consignment of suspected cocaine concealed in packaged gari at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra, as part of an ongoing investigation.
This follows an earlier case in which NACOC confirmed the arrest of a popular packaging brand manager in an alleged cocaine smuggling case.
According to the reports, the illicit substance was discovered during routine screening and profiling of cargo and passenger-related items at the airport.
Officers became suspicious of the packaged gari products after irregularities were detected during inspection, leading to a more detailed search that uncovered the concealed drugs.
Sources familiar with the operation say the interception forms part of broader intelligence-led efforts by NACOC to dismantle organised drug smuggling networks operating through Ghana’s main international gateway.
The latest seizure is also believed to be connected to an earlier development in which NACOC confirmed the arrest of a manager linked to a popular packaging brand in an alleged cocaine smuggling case.
While investigators have not officially disclosed the identities of suspects involved in the airport interception, officials indicate that the two incidents are being treated as part of the same ongoing investigation.
Deputy Director of Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) Twum-Barimah confirmed the manager’s arrest, as previously reported by hellovybes.com, and stated that he was involved in the drug trafficking attempts.
He asserts that the business is innocent and has no involvement in dealing with drugs following the seizure.
Other individuals apprehended by the authorities include the entity’s two managerial staff, who are currently assisting the investigation processes.
Twum Barimah emphasized that the entity’s managerial staffs have also been picked up and are now assisting the investigative process from the authorities.
However, no official communique has been released as NACOC is expected to provide further details including the quantity of the seized drugs as investigation continues.
