Prof. Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah has made history with her groundbreaking victory in Essikado-Ketan Constutuency becoming the newly elected Member of Parliament (MP) for the area.
She defeated the NPP’s Charles Onuawonto Bissue to become the first female politician to win this seat, breaking the 19-year streak since 2005 at just ended general elections.
Dr. Ayensu-Danquah’s political journey has been marked by resilience and determination.
She first contested for the seat in 2020 against Joe Ghartey, a former Member of Parliament who served from 2005 to 2020.
Although she lost in a controversial election, she remained undeterred in her pursuit of political aspirations.
Joe Ghartey’s tenure ended in 2020, and Charles Onuawonto Bissue was introduced by the NPP in 2024 to retain the party’s hold on the seat.
On Saturday December 7, 2024, Dr. Ayensu-Danquah secured a resounding victory in her second attempt, earning 26,166 votes against Charles Onuawonto’s 17,754 votes.
This victory marks a historic moment for the constituency and a milestone for women in politics.
