Former Ghanaian international footballer Charles Taylor, has shared his opinion on the Ghana Football Association’s plan to retire the Black Stars’ number 7 jersey in Christian Atsu’s honour.
This comes after Linford Boadu, the chairman of the Eastern Regional Football Association (RFA), revealed the Ghana FA’s intention to consider retiring the Black Star’s number 7 jersey in Atsu’s honour.
Speaking on Angel Tv with Sports presenter Saddick Adams onCharles Taylor claimed that GFA’s plans to reserve Black Stars No.7 Jersey to honour the late former Chelsea star is needless.
According to him, there are other football legends whom their countries has not considered retiring their jerseys despite their achievements for them.

Calling GFA’s plans needless, the 41-year-old also questioned the Association’s motive as why Christian Atsu deserve such recognition as a sign of tribute due to their failure to invite him to the squad.
Charles Taylor who called the GFA’s action as needless also questioned the Association’s rationale for giving Christian Atsu such recognition over their failure to invite the Hatayspor player to the black Stars team over there years.

He also suggests that building a monument to honour Christian Atsu’s would be appropriate in recognition of his charitable works and good deeds that benefited the people of the country.
“Retiring Black Stars Jersey Number 7 in honour of Atsu is needless! Even Maradona’s shirt is not retired. When was the last time he Atsu was invited to the National team? We can build a monument in one of our stadia to honour his good deeds.” – Taylor said.
