A video of newly-sworn-in President John Mahama mistakenly referring to Bola Tinubu as President of Ghana has gone viral on the internet, sparking debate.
The viral video shows Mahama calling Tinubu as President of Ghana instead of Nigeria during his inaugural speech.
The incident happened during his inauguration ceremonial speech held on Tuesday January 7, 2025 at the Independence Square.
Attendees who made their presence at the event quickly noticed the gaffe, which had already been captured on camera and widely circulated on social media platforms.
Social media users were quick to share their thoughts on the mistake, with some finding the slip humorous.
Others offered a more forgiving perspective attributing it to the pressures of public speaking.
Meanwhile, John Mahama who is 65 years old officially sworn in as the president of Ghana on January 7, 2025 to succeed Nana Akufo-Addo.
This marks Mahama’s second tenure as president, having previously served from July 2012 to January 2017.
His first presidency began following the passing of President John Evans Atta Mills in July 2012.
Mahama completed that term and subsequently won the presidential election in 2012.
