Two siblings have tragically died while attempting to play in a large water drum that they mistook for a swimming pool in Takoradi, Western Region.
According to reports gathered by hellovybes.com, the two siblings, aged 12 and 8, were found dead after being locked inside a water drum in the kitchen by their 6-year-old sister.
The incident happened on Thursday, January 9, 2025, and reveals that the terrible event began when the eldest sibling, a 12-year-old boy, climbed onto a “Kufuor gallon” to access the drum and entered it first.
He was followed by his 8-year-old sibling, who also climbed in. The youngest, a 6-year-old girl, was instructed by her brothers to close the lid of the drum.

Shortly after she closed the drum, the boys began to suffocate and shouted for help.
The little girl got terrified and ran to seek assistance from a 16-year-old schoolgirl.
However, in her attempt to open the drum, the schoolgirl accidentally tightened the lid further.
She left the scene to find more help after failing to free the boys.
The 6-year-old eventually alerted others, and staff members from the nearby Ruco Hotel rushed to the scene to open the drum.
Unfortunately, by the time they managed to open the drum, it was too late to save the guys who had been taken to the local hospital after being found unconscious.
Later reports indicated that the children’s father was in Sunyani at the time of the tragedy, and their mother was out selling.
Their grandmother, who was later visited for more details, gave a sad account of the unfortunate event.
The incident has left the entire community in despair, with many expressing their grief and sympathies to the grieving family.
However, police are currently investigating the matter in order to bring justice to the deceased’s family.
