The famous Kantamanto Market in Accra Central is currently on fire, destroying shops and leaving traders helpless.
The tragic event occurred at a business facility near Accra Railway Station in the early hours of today [Thursday], January 2, 2025.
The caused of the inferno is unknown, however the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has halted the power supply in that area to facilitate firefighting efforts.
There have been no immediate reports of casualties, as of the time of writing.
The Ghana Fire Service has already arrived at the scene in an effort to extinguish the still-burning fire.
According to video obtained by blogger Sika Official in which some of the local residents affected by the fire that is destroying the market expressed their thoughts.
They suspect the fire was deliberately ignited by unknown individuals, resulting in a sudden and unexpected occurrence, as it happens almost every year.
Their assertions were based on fire outbreaks in 2020, 2022 and 2023 which had a comparable impact on the inferno.
A fire has broken out at the Kantamanto Railway. Firefighters are currently on the scene trying to extinguish it.
