Alan Kyerematen has officially resigned from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and plans to contest for the presidency as an independent candidate.
His decision to leave the NPP came shortly after he withdrew from the party’s flagbearer race, citing concerns about its fairness.
Why Alan Kyerematen Resigned From NPP?
Kyerematen publicly announced this significant shift in his political career on Monday, September 25, 2023.
This decision followed a period during which the NPP leadership had disputed the idea that why Kyerematen would abandon the party.
“It is abundantly clear to me that my service and contributions to the party are not appreciated and that my continuous stay in the party will create further tensions and divisions,” he said.
Back on August 26, 2023, Alan Kyerematen had denied allegations of an unfair election process during the NPP’s Super Delegates Congress.
The NPP leadership had maintained that they did not show favoritism toward any flag bearer race candidate, contrary to Kyerematen’s claims. They also expressed disappointment with Kyerematen’s withdrawal from the NPP flagbearer race.
During the Super Delegates Congress, Vice President Malamudu Bawumia secured a resounding victory with 629 votes a result that had been widely anticipated.
Kennedy Agyapong, the Memeber of Parliament for Assin Central, secured a second place with 132 votes, whiles Kyerematen trailed behind in the third place with 95 votes falling short of earlier projections.
However, in announcing his resignation from NPP, Alan Cash took to social media and wrote:
“I wish to use this platform to announce that I am honourably resigning with immediate effect from the New Patriotic Party to contest for the high office of the President of the Republic of Ghana in the 2024 General Elections, as an Independent Presidential Candidate”.

Despite not disclosing his new party which he will run as an independent candidate, Alan Cash claimed that, the brand motto of the movement is “Ghana Will Arise Again” high symbolizes hope for the future of Ghana.
