Former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has reportedly been arrested by national security operatives for alleged corruption and asset misappropriation.
The shocking development has sparked an outrage among Ghanaians with many questioning the reason behind the sudden arrest of the former government appointee.
According to reports, Jumah who previously served as a Member of Parliament and member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was apprehended on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at his home in Kumasi after the operatives asked to speak with him.
He was then transported to the Ashanti Regional Police Command vehicle, where he remains in custody.
His arrest for financial misconduct stems from allegations uncovered by internal investigations in March when he was suspected by the officials during his stint at GIHOC.
The security personnel raided Jumah’s residence in an effort to recover state vehicles that were reportedly in his possession after he left the office.
Source sources close to the matter suggest that, Mr. Jummah upon learning the operation, instructed his private security to return the vehicle.
It is alleged that he admitted that one of his cars had been in his son’s name, modern Ghana also reported.
The vehicle is part of a trio being investigated by state officials. Mr. Jumah purchased a Genesis G90 luxury saloon car for under 5% of its market value, raising questions about the transaction’s legality and transparency.
Another vehicle, an Audi worth over $60,000, is also said to have been kept without formal approval from the company’s board.
As now, the government is yet to release an official statement or communique to ongoing financial and administrative probes of Maxwell Kofi Jumah.
