Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III, the revered Queen mother of the Ashanti Kingdom and sister of the current Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has reportedly passed away.
She died in Kumasi on Thursday, August 6, 2025, at the age of 91, according to an unconfirmed reports circulating on social media.
Many friends and sympathisers flooded their timelines with RIP messages to mourn the Queen Mother without mentioning that she had died.
Bigscout Nana Prempeh, a seasonal blogger and staunch Ashanti native, took to social media to send condolences to Asantehene over the supposed tragedy.
“It seems like this year is a funeral year..Hmmm. Ohene wo nkwa so y3 som wo awu Kotoko hene” — he said on Facebook.
Additionally, many local media, news outlets, and publicists were not only fearful and panicked to broadcast the news but the respect they have for the Ashanti customs and traditions.
However, shortly after her alleged death surfaced on the internet, Asantehene tumfuo Osei Tutu II called an emergency meeting at the Manhyia Palace.
He directed all the Ashanti chiefs and Asanteman council “nananom” to meet in the Jubilee hall on Monday for an unknown discussion, according to statement dated on Thursday August 6.

Meanwhile, the actual cause of Asantehemaa’s death has not been made public, but many have speculated that it was due to old age, despite the fact that this has not been confirmed.
