Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has conceded defeat in the 2024 presidential election, extending his congratulations to John Mahama in a phone call following the polls.
At a press conference held on the morning of Sunday, December 8, 2024, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged his loss to Mr. Mahama even before the Electoral Commission (EC) made an official declaration.
Before Dr. Bawumia’s concession, Mr. Mahama held a significant lead of over 1.4 million votes, although results from some constituencies were still pending collation by the EC.
The delay in announcing the final results had sparked frustration among many NDC supporters across Ghana.

In his concession speech, Dr. Bawumia expressed heartfelt gratitude to NPP supporters and party executives for their unwavering support throughout his political journey.
He also thanked his wife for standing by him during this period.
Dr. Bawumia pledged to remain a model leader and assured his commitment to ensuring a smooth and cooperative transition process as Mr. Mahama prepares to assume office.
