David Alaba has issued a statement to explain why he voted for Lionel Messi over Karim Benzema in the FIFA Best Awards.
This comes after the Austrian defender received racial abuse from Real Madrid fans for voting for Lionel Messi over Karim Benzema.
#AlabaOut trended heavily on social media following Alaba’s choice of rating the Argentine superstar ahead of Benzema to win the “FIFA Best Player” award last night in Paris.
However, David Alaba, in response to Real Madrid fan’s attack on him, took to social media to explain his vote of confidence in Messi over Benzema said: “Regarding FIFA The Best Award: The Austrian national team vote for this award as a team, not me alone. Everyone in the team council is able to vote and that’s how it’s decided” – he explained.
He went further to praise Benzema for his unrivalled talent, claiming that he is the best striker in the world and that he loves him regardless of what others think over his vote.
“Everyone knows, especially Karim, how much I admire him and his performances and I have often said that for me he is the best striker in the world, and that is still the case. Without doubt”– Alaba conclude.
