Ghanaian reggae-dancehall star Charles Nii Armah Mensah, also known as Shatta Wale, has urged authorities to release Abu Trica ahead of his likely extradition to the United States.
The singer’s plea follows his recent performance at the Easter Carnival Concert in Gomoa, when he chanted with the crowd, urging officials to release Abu Trica, who had been charged with a $8 million romance scam.
According to Shatta Wale, if the government had provided career opportunities to the country’s youths, the authorities would not have accused Abu Trica of fraud.
“Free Abu, free Abu free Abu !!! Nobody does fraud here. If they had given him job he you would’ve called him a fraudster?…. who doesn’t want money? we all want it” — Shatta Wale chants.
The “Real Life” singer made this bold statement in support of Abu Trica during his thrilling performance at Gomoa’s Easter Carnival extravaganza on Sunday, April 5, 2026.
Before his comments, many supporters had gathered on Accra’s streets holding placards with the words “Free Abu Trica” just a few days after a judge approved the businessman’s extradition to the United States.
His wife and baby mama, Abena Oforiwaa, also known as Queenie begged with the Ghanaian government to forgive and have pity on her embattled husband in the escalating extradition case.
Meanwhile, Abu, real name Federick Kumi, also known as Emmanuel Kojo Baah Obeng, was arrested on December 11, 2025, in the United States for allegedly scamming elderly people.
The 31-year-old has been charged with wire fraud, money laundering conspiracy, and forfeiture specification, and if found guilty, he may face a 20-year sentence.
