Gifty Oware-Mensah returned to Ghana as the NIB allegedly arrested the former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Authority upon her arrival in the country on Tuesday afternoon, March 4, 2025, via Emirates Airlines at 12:30pm after travelling overseas for a vacation.
Ms Gifty Mensah, who is currently facing legal troubles over the NSS fraud charges was reportedly apprehended amid speculation regarding her alleged role in financial irregularities at the agency.
She landed at Kotoka International Airport with her Personal Assistant (PA) and Bodyguard was being welcomed by Ghanaian producer and filmmaker Safo Socrate.
Prior to her arrival in Kotoka, the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) issued an arrest warrant for Ms Gifty Mensah, who would be detained for interrogation, MyJoyOnline.com also reports.
Key players in the New Patriotic Party under which regime she was appointed Deputy Executive Director reported to be mobilising to storm the Airport in order to accompany her to the offices of the NIB.
The NIB is probing her work at the NSS over allegations that thousands of ghost names were used to defraud the state of millions of cedis in allowances.
As the Deputy Executive Director, Gifty Oware-Mensah had responsibility for administration and finance of the NSS and
is expected to be a key witness in the ongoing investigations.
The alleged payroll fraud is reported to have cost the state a staggering GH$50
million each month.
It is unclear how long the alleged scheme run.
Over the weekend, the government announced an extradition process to bring key suspects in alleged malfeasance back to Ghana, following reports that some individuals wanted to assist in
investigations had fled the country to evade justice.
The NIB recently arrested, detained and questioned Kwaku Ohene Djan, also a former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Authority over the raging allegations.
However, Gifty Oware-Mensah is currently assisting the NIB with the investigation into the NSS Ghost Names controversy, which has caught an interest of many Ghanaians including the incumbent president John Mahama
