Some chiefs in the Ashanti Kingdom are mounting pressure on King Otumfuo Osei Tutu to place a ban on New Patriotic Party (NPP) electioneering activities in the Ashanti Region until Chairman Wontumi is produced.
In addition to the suggested embargo, they are urging the Chief of Bantama to shut down Chairman Wontumi’s media entity.
They expressed dissatisfaction with the disrespect suffered at the hands of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP during a meeting with party executives virtually calling for a ban on NPP campaigning in the Ashanti Region until Chairman Wontumi is presented.
A chief emphasized, “I want Bantamahene to close down his radio station. Also it is important that if they can’t produce Wontumi then NPP should be barred from campaigning in the Ashanti Region. They shouldn’t be allow raising a flag in the Ashanti Region for their campaign until they produce him.”
Pressure was mounting on Chairman Wontumi over his alleged derogatory statements against the King of the Ashanti Kingdom during the political party’s parliamentary vetting.
He was at the time scheduled to meet Manhyia on 22nd January 2024 but missed the appointment due to ill health. The Chiefs have set a deadline of January 29, 2024, for his appearance.
